Analysis of Moving Image

L/O: To analyse a trailer effectively using the Key Concepts.

1. The worlds end is a comedy/science fiction movie

  • There are giant robots
  • Lots of fight scenes
  • unrealistic
  • lots of jokes
  • Bright lights
  • Blue blood
  • Robots

2.The worlds end uses quite a lot of cutaway shots to create the effect of a rhythm throughout the trailer, and a lot of jump cuts so it's nice and simple, like the original concept of the movie.
and it uses a wipe transition to keep a flow throughout the trailer

3. Editing has been used to equally match the amount of comedy and action to keep the audience engaged in the movie, so you always have relaxed parts in-between the action.

4. Sound has been used to effectively deliver what type of scene they're showing for example, when they're fighting they really emphasise on the hits and throughout there's a clanking sound that gets louder and louder, to make it much more intense.

5.  The setting is a small town in the countryside, the props used are stools mainly for the fights.
The costume shows the main character trying to keep his teen angst and the other 4 are portrayed                as civilised adults.
The facial expressions are usually confused or laughing.
They use the positioning of the characters to show Gary King is the main character

6. They use quite a dark colour palette to show that they aren't the energetic young teenagers they used to be the lighting is quite natural as well.

To Understand how and why Sound is used in Film

A soundtrack in a film is everything you hear.

Diegetic & Non-Diegetic Sounds and music

Diegetic- sounds that the characters can hear

Non-diegetic- sounds the characters can't hear

Task 1:

  • Heavy breathing
  • Fire crackling
  • wings flapping
  • talking
  • hour glass
  • chewing flesh
  • screaming
  • chomping

Dialogue

nearly all dialogue that you hear will be recorded afterwards and synced in, this is called Audio Dialogue Replacement.

Foley

Foley is the reproduction of everyday sounds for use in filmmaking.

Task 2:

  • Creaking bench
  • Bouncing lamp
  • rustling
  • Crickets
  • Beam
  • falling man
  • sniff
  • alien

Sound effects

Task 3:

Smashing cars
Alien
ground breaking
glass smv ashing
massive robots

Music

Helps to add tension,atmosphere,time,setting

1

  • upbeat music
  • trading punches

2
  • Slow motion
  • exaggerated noises
  • internal dialogue

3
  • silence
  • folk music

In the fight scene from Sherlock Holmes they've used volume and varied it depending on what reaction the audience should have, for example when sherlock is explaining his 'master plan' whenever Holmes would hit his opponent the volume of the punch connecting would increase exponentially. The effect this has on the audience is making you really feel that punch and being able to really feel every hit that connects. They do this to build up suspense and sympathy for the victim due to the sheer power in the sound of the punches.

From these picture we can see the setting of the game is a rundown city that has lost hope in rebuilding society. The roads are flooded, the buildings are broke and clearly there is more to the setting than we can see.

They isn't much props in this picture other than the backpacks. This shows that they're prepared and travelling.
The costumes are dirty, ripped and teared. This could be because of how long they've been walking
The faces on the two characters shows pain and fatigue, putting an image in the audiences head imagining what they've been through.
the position of the pair clearly tells us the man is dominant to the girl due to him being in the centre or closest to the camera.
